Microsoft has forged an alliance with Nokia to offer Microsoft Office on Nokia’s smartphones.
Nokia will start offering the Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile application on its smartphones from next year, a spokesperson for Nokia announced on Wednesday. This will be followed by other Office applications, related software and services.
Microsoft’s Business Division President, Stephen Elop reiterated that Nokia, the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer with more than 200 million smartphone customers worldwide, is the natural choice for a partner for Microsoft.
There is speculation doing rounds that Microsoft is now the owner of the domain Office.com. And they will use it for their cloud-version of Microsoft Office.
This speculation is based on ContactOffice’s (previous owner) mail to Office.com users, explaining its present and future developments. The letter says
Dear Office.com Users,
As you know from the recent email we sent you, we will be transitioning the operation of your Virtual Office account to ContactOffice.com during the next 30 days.
As part of this transition, on Monday, June 29, 2009, we changed email addresses in the office.com domain to ones in the contactoffice.com domain.
It’s just the second week and Microsoft has worked its charm on the market with its new search engine, Bing. Of course, initial figures are too inconsistent to speak about, but the truth is out there – Bing is a much stronger horse in the race for the best search engine around.
The usage of Bing has increased substantially, with the usage increasing by almost seventeen percent. The search engine also accounted for more than thirteen percent of all queries. These percentage points are three percent more than the figures last week.
Whether Bing would be as successful as the Google search engine is another matter, but we can be sure about one thing – Bing is not taking any chances. After the experience of Google being embarrassed countless times about their handling of porn content and porn keywords, Bing has decided to launch explicit.bing.com, a part of the search engine that will be specifically dedicated to porn and adult searches.
Bing had earlier faced some issues with critics deriding that porn could easily be searched and accessed due to the useful user interface of the new search engine. In fact, due to the enhanced user interface, a internet user could access videos from a website, which could be anything, without even clicking on the website.
With the launch of Microsoft’s new search engine, , the world of SEO is surely going to see a lot of changes. Last week, Microsoft released guidelines and other information that would be relevant to the Search Engine Optimisers all around the world. With Bing promising to be the Google Killer, it goes without saying that SEOs will keep a hawk eye’s view on all the happenings on the engine. Of course the new Bing has already come under some criticism, because it is quite easy for underage individuals to preview and access porn from the search results of Bing.
One important aspect of Bing, and maybe a critical difference from the current heavy weight of search engines, Google, is that Bing searches deeper. While Google looks, or crawls, the content on the page, Bing goes into the meta data and other related data.
In a major hit back at internet criminals, Operating System heavyweight Microsoft has sued three individuals alleging that they used the “click fraud” method to make profit from their advertising services. The individuals have been sued for the amount of $750,000.
Click Fraud is a traditional illegal way to make money from online advertising, in which an internet user will click on advertisements which they have no intention of pursing or buying, or even coming into a financial transaction with.
